Development of Cheap Flow Meter

Abstract

In this study, we plan and develop a cheap and accurate flow meter and the boat to mount it. The purpose of this study is to reduce the cost of flow rate measurement in rivers. In the development of the flow meter, we are planning to develop a magnetic flow meter. The principle of the magnetic flow meter is Faraday's electromagnetic induction law. The output of the magnetic flow meter is a voltage relative to flow rate. Therefore, we convert the voltage into data of flow rate. We will use Raspberry Pi and a peripheral circuit to record and transmit data. We will record data onto Raspberry Pi on the boat and transmit it to terminal on ground by radio wave. After the development of the flow meter and the boat, we will calibrate the output voltage of the flow meter and value of flow rate. Then we will test and check accuracy of flow meter at river. Meanwhile, in the development of the boat to mount the flow meter, we will design it to have an expandability for environmental research in the river and the sea. We will finish the development of the flow meter and the boat in July and test on the river in August or September.
