The Reflection of the Concept of Alienation on Post-1960 Art

Abstract

All kinds of information is consumed as quickly as it is produced in the communication era. The greed of the consumption era is reflected in human relations, leads to alienation from our environment and above all from ourselves.
In the process of alienation, most clearly, human beings leave their labor and production created by their own thoughts and actions, remain indifferent to cultural and social values and alienate from their own essence by isolating themselves from the outside world as a result of incresing inability to enjoy life.Depression, isolation, depersonalization, loss of identity and objectification came into question along with technological developments. Objectificated human beings turned into a machine devoid of values. Man's place in society along with capitalism has led to the emergence of a soulless society by "objectification" of relations, love and friendship due to the effects of market economy.
The concept of alienation, as a fiercely debated concept, has become a concept that can help to define the sociological, psychological, political and philosophical explanations of the trend. Alienation is defined as the break with man's own essence, production and the natural and social environment of his own. Moreover, the concept of alienation has become a symbol of rebellion against a rationalistic form of civilization which turns people into machines, merchandises and at the end enslaves them.
Advances in technology and rapidly growing production have caused new crises and destructions for human beings. Thus, reflected in the arts, this left deep traces on the psychology and personality of the artists and alienated them from their era and society. Traces left by a society composed of unhealthy individuals are reflected in their works.
The self-alienation of human's reflection on post-1960 art will be discussed in this paper.
