Abstract

The study investigated the integration of traditional Omani weaving motifs with macramé techniques to create a unique fusion of heritage-inspired contemporary fibre art. Omani traditional motifs, deeply rooted in the nation’s cultural identity, are reinterpreted through tapestry processes to preserve their intricate geometries and symbolic meanings. By combining these motifs with macramé, a craft known for its knotting techniques and three-dimensional potential. This work seeks to develop innovative fibre art that bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. The project emphasizes sustainability by utilizing locally sourced and natural fibers, highlighting the importance of cultural preservation and environmentally conscious practices. This interdisciplinary approach aims to create versatile art forms applicable in interior design, and artistic installations while fostering a deeper appreciation for Omani heritage through contemporary craftsmanship.
