Management for Disabled Workers in the Establishment of Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry in the Upper Northern of Thailand.

Abstract

The study is qualitative research focusing on employees with disabilities in the fruit and vegetables processing industry. The results show that fruit and food processing enterprises in the Northern Part with more than 100 employees are required to employ one disabled as stated by laws. Almost of such enterprises employ employees with mobility disability as they are able to take care of themselves. The 51 disabled employees from 13 companies chose to work nearby their home or work with companies that provided housing for them. They were eager to be assigned jobs as they have been trained for or any job that would make them to improve themselves. In the governmental aspect, it is found that the unemployed registration number is low as there is family-related and travelling-related issues while the entrepreneur set up high standard in recruiting the disabled or the disability characteristics do not match with the entrepreneur’s requirements. It is recommendable that government institution adjust attitude of entrepreneur regarding the disabled’s ability and motivate entrepreneur to employee other disability types to the workforce. That is, disability tag from such entrepreneurs, prasing entrepreneurs that employs the disabled including progressive policy such as the government coordinate and assign the disabled to the proper work place. This can be done by getting the requirments from entrepreneurs then government provides proper training for the disabled. This would result in more number of the disabled employed as stated by laws or even more so.
