Model to Improve Income and Social Opportunities Through Craft-Based Activities and Creative Tourism in Raman District, Yala Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to 1. To develop a model for elevating the income and social opportunities of poor households through craft activities and creative tourism associated with the local context and (2) To develop digital media to promote craft-based tourism routes in Raman District, Yala Province. The research employed a qualitative research methodology integrated with Participatory Action Research (PAR) to examine community activities and capabilities. The research was conducted through a participatory process involving local stakeholders. Research instruments comprised participant observation, focus group discussions, and tourism route surveys. Data were analyzed using content analysis, and data reliabilities was verified through triangulation. The research results indicated that the model to enhance income and social opportunities through crafts and creative tourism consists of three main components (1) foundational elements (2) driving mechanisms and (3) operational processes. Regarding the development of digital media to promote craft tourism routes, it was found that linking to craft activities with the local way of life and community resources within the research area could enriching and multifaceted tourism experiences. This ultimately drives the recognition of cultural heritage values and strengthens community pride. In summary, the developed model is highly compatible with the local’s context offering substantial potential for scalability to uplift the grassroots economy through craft-based enterprises and creative tourism. Nevertheless, any further scalability of this model must consider differences in local and the continuous engagement of network partners.
