Abstract
This study aimed to develop a learning innovation through educational games to promote desirable characteristics among Bachelor of Education students, evaluate its quality, and examine its effectiveness. Employing a mixed-methods approach, a research and development (R&D) process was integrated with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were 58 undergraduate education students, divided into an experimental group (n = 30) receiving the educational game intervention, and a control group (n = 28). The instruments included an educational game packages, an instructional manual, expert review forms, a desirable characteristics scale, behavioral observation rubrics, and reflective journals. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. The results indicated that the developed educational game innovation achieved a very good quality level (Mean = 4.66, SD = 0.51). Furthermore, the experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in desirable characteristics after the intervention compared to their pretest scores (p < .05), effectively transforming passive perception into active practice. Students also reported the highest level of satisfaction with the learning innovation (Mean = 4.62, SD = 0.51). The qualitative findings highlighted that the game-based approach successfully fostered proactive problem-solving, collaboration, and ethical decision-making. Ultimately, this research provides empirical evidence that well-designed educational games can significantly enhance essential professional characteristics in higher education.
