The Analysis of The Vientiane 450 Years Anniversary Logo : Reflections of Lao’s Culture and Society

Abstract

 
This article is derived from the accumulation of data attained from a field study, content analysis of signs and symbols, culture and historiography. Subsequent to the use of the three methods, all the data are put together, decoded, and interpreted with care.
And the Study of the data leads to the conclusion that the 450 anniversary emblem of Vientiane is represented through the image of King Setthathirath, Plumeria (Champa) , and Pha That Luang. This representation serves to communicate the origination of Vientiane capital in 3 dimensions, namely nation, religion, and heroic person which are profoundly related to the long history of Laos. At the same time, it implied the consolidation of the country, including the creation of  so that the extant generation will realize spirit of Laoness and the significance of  being Lao.
